Santa Cruz–San Cristóbal ferry guide

Santa Cruz–San Cristóbal ferry guide [2026]

The inter-island “ferry” is a passenger-boat transfer, not a continuation of your day tour. Plan the full journey between accommodation, pier, inspections, boarding and the next town; crossing time is only part of it.

Updated

The short answer

DPNG gives roughly two to three hours depending on sea conditions. We have not verified a universal 2026 fare or timetable; confirm the specific departure and extras for your date.

Understand the two ports

The Santa Cruz side uses Puerto Ayora; the San Cristóbal town base is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Baltra airport is not at the Puerto Ayora pier. If arriving by air, allow the separate channel and ground transfers before an inter-island sailing.

Confirm the precise pier and whether a small water taxi is part of boarding. A town name on a ticket is not the same as a complete meeting pin and reporting time.

Why there is no generic departure table here

The official overview provides the useful two-to-three-hour scale but also carries an old-looking fare and limited departure table. That does not establish current availability for every 2026 date. We prefer a clear verification gap to republishing an exact time with no reliable current confirmation.

Obtain date, route, vessel, departure and reporting times in writing. Ask what happens if a sailing is changed or cancelled and whether the booking is one-way or return.

Compare the complete fare

Check luggage allowance, water taxis, pier charges, accommodation transfer and any baggage handling. Those items can explain why two advertised tickets differ. Our tour prices are EUR product snapshots; local transport charges should remain in their quoted payment currency.

The TCT and conservation entry process do not become a repeat day-tour ticket simply because you change island. Ask the official services if your particular status or itinerary raises an entry question; do not pay an unofficial “park fee” based only on a verbal claim.

Plan for sea conditions and connections

The journey can be bumpy and duration changes with conditions. Ask about the vessel, seating, baggage protection and support for your group. This guide does not give medication instructions; discuss any personal travel needs with an appropriate professional.

Avoid placing a Kicker Rock departure immediately after the arrival boat, particularly when gear fitting is required the previous afternoon. Leave a buffer before a mainland flight and confirm the entire route to its airport. Separate bookings are not automatically protected connections.

Read one ticket from reporting to arrival

Separate the agency check-in, biosecurity inspection, water-taxi stage if used, and actual passenger-boat departure. A supplier’s reporting instruction may be earlier than the sailing time. Ask which point the ticket names and where you should take your bags. If another traveller sends a departure screenshot, verify that it is for the same direction, date and vessel.

On arrival, allow time to disembark, reunite with bags and reach the accommodation. The first tour instruction may require previous-day equipment fitting, so compare it with the boat’s arrival arrangement before purchasing. A flexible town evening is easier to organize than an offshore activity with a departure already fixed by another supplier.

A ferry move changes the trip budget and the usable day

Ask for the full payment breakdown: ticket, any port service, water taxi and luggage conditions. Keep the quoted currency and distinguish an official charge from a supplier’s service. We have no verified current universal 2026 fare to substitute for that dated quote. The same care applies to returns; a ticket in one direction does not hold the opposite sailing automatically.

For onward Isabela travel, plan the Santa Cruz connection unless a direct service is actually confirmed. Check whether the connection requires an overnight and who handles changes when tickets are separate. The useful comparison is the complete move between accommodation bases, not only the published crossing duration. That shows how many full local touring days remain.
